YouTube has announced a new integration with Amazon that allows eligible creators in the United States to tag Amazon products directly in their content and earn a commission from qualifying sales.
The feature allows creators to tag products across Shorts, long-form videos and livestreams, turning product recommendations into a more direct source of revenue.
For Amazon, the integration provides access to YouTube’s large creator ecosystem, while creators can promote products without relying on traditional Amazon Associates links placed in video descriptions.
Amazon products come to YouTube Shopping
YouTube already operates a Shopping affiliate programme that allows eligible creators to promote products from participating retailers.
The addition of Amazon brings the online retailer’s extensive product catalogue into the programme, allowing creators to tag products directly within their content.
YouTube said Amazon will provide a curated catalogue featuring highly requested and trending products that creators can tag in their videos.
If a creator cannot find a particular Amazon product they want to recommend, they can request its addition through YouTube Support.
YouTube introduces automatic product tagging
The new feature also includes an auto-tagging option.
If enabled, YouTube’s systems can review a creator’s recent uploads and automatically identify and tag eligible Amazon products featured in the content.
The system is designed to make it easier for creators to monetise product recommendations without manually adding individual tags to every video.
How creators will receive commissions
Creators will be able to view their overall daily earnings through YouTube Studio. However, YouTube said creators will not receive detailed analytics showing earnings for individual products or specific videos.
If a viewer purchases a tagged product but later returns it, the corresponding commission will be deducted from the creator’s balance.
The Amazon integration is currently limited to eligible creators in the US, although product tags can be viewed by audiences globally.
YouTube said it may automatically match tagged products with trusted local merchant offers, potentially allowing creators to earn commissions from eligible purchases made outside the US.
If no suitable local merchant is available, viewers will be directed to Amazon’s US website, where creators can earn a commission if the purchase is completed there.
Who is eligible for Amazon product tagging?
To use the new feature, creators must meet several requirements.
They need to be enrolled in YouTube’s Partner and Shopping Affiliate programmes and have an active Amazon Influencer or Associates account linked to their YouTube channel.
The expansion strengthens YouTube’s push into creator-driven shopping while giving eligible creators another way to monetise their audiences through product recommendations.
