The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results of underage candidates whose results had earlier been withheld.The Board, however, clarified that the release of the results does not mean that every underage candidate is automatically eligible for admission into a tertiary institution.
JAMB made this known in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by its Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
According to the Board, only candidates who satisfy the requirements for exceptional consideration will be allowed to proceed with admission despite being below the general minimum age.
Who is an underage candidate?
JAMB explained that an underage candidate for the 2026 admission exercise is any candidate who will be less than 16 years old as of September 30, 2026.
The age requirement remains an important part of the admission process, meaning candidates who have not attained the required age are generally not eligible for admission.
However, JAMB has provisions for exceptional candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic ability.
